MICHAEL SHIPP XCURSION (MSX)
The Adventures of Roosterboy

RoosterBoyMichael Shipp Xcursion's The Adventures of Roosterboy CD is available now!

Michael R Shipp writes his own music. He performs his original tunes with soulful guitar sounds punctuated by raspy, sexy vocals. He is as influenced by Johnny Cash as he is by Muddy Waters. The lead track, entitled Voodoo in Tallulah packs 4 minutes and 55 seconds of serious voodoo heat and Shipp's vocals are at their steamy best in this tale of swampland black magic.

It is followed by If You Had a Soul, cowritten by Billy Bob Thornton. Big Daddy strolls down Mississippi Delta dirt roads with such hard rockers as Messing With My Heart and Feeling Kinda Crazy. Favor is an edgy piece in which Shipp mourns lost love with a sexy growl that would send any sensible woman right back into his arms. A rock and roll version of the classic country themed prison song, Blue Malibu features a recently released Angola Prison inmate who was wrongfully incarcerated for 23 years and returns to his small town to try and revive an old romance (with a twist). Michael Shipp is no neophyte and his life experiences give weight to his words. His unique vocals add the soul.

The CD ends with the haunting melody Voices. The song opens with a labyrinth of speaking voices: preternatural children urging evil acts and an adult woman calmly cautioning patience. A male voice intones "Get out of my head. You're not real." This ominous opening leads into an examination of what is real, what is rumor, and what those voices of pain really mean. The song features so many layers that each listening brings about a different interpretation.

Big Daddy commands the stage with his confident roots rock and roll presence. From the first howl of the big open E to the last thump of the electric bass, powerhouse artist Michael R Shipp's original tunes highlight the best of what's out there today. Shipp is an experienced performer who has proven himself on the road in front of audiences that ran the range from country music fans, to hard rock aficionados, to hard-core blues devotees; feedback from these diverse patrons have proved to be enthusiastic, a powerful testament to Big Daddy's ability to please an audience no matter the genre.
